Walking in The Light

Most Merciful Lord, how I long for the warmth and guidance of Your light. When I drift away from You and neglect the reading of Your Word, my spirit feels weak and sickly. Your Word instructs me how to rid myself of this feeling of feebleness. It tells me the way out is to judge myself (examine my conscious) so I do not come under Your judgement. When I do judge myself (which leads me to a confession of my faults), I am able to by-pass your disciple and restore my witness to others. You are the source of light which chases away the darkness and helps me overcome sin. Through Your light evil is exposed, and I can walk uprightly. If I claim to have fellowship with You and walk in darkness, I am a liar and do not live by Your truths. If I acknowledge Your light and walk in it, I have fellowship with You, and it purges the sin from my life.

To attain my place at Your banqueting table, I must continually choose between maintaining a relationship with You or my sins. Walking in the light of Your words provides me with the guidance I need to escape the darkness that once held me captive. It is the exposure to truth that Your light provides that helps me choose rightly between good and evil. As I become exposed to Your truth, I (in turn) will become a light for the world to see. In a troubled world, the entrance of Your light gives me the faith and encouragement I need to overcome my obstacles. Worry and despair have no way to take hold in my life because Your light chases them away. Your gift of salvation does not free me from my requirement to faithfully obey You. The radiance of Your goodness calls me to follow in Your footsteps and obey Your commands because one day I will have to stand before You.

Exposing myself to Your light requires allowing the Holy Spirit to fill me with new attitudes and motives. The entrance of Your light ushers in a Kingdom filled with peace, security and love which are manifested through the work of the Holy Spirit. I am thankful that evil never has and never will extinguish Your light. In the same way that a plant needs light from the sun to flourish and grow, I need Your light to be able to flourish and grow spiritually. In Your light, I can see myself as I truly am. When I follow You (my true light), I can avoid walking blindly into occasions of sin. You light the path ahead of me so I can see how to live uprightly. In committing to You, darkness has been removed, my eyes can see Your purpose for my life and my path forward becomes clearer. As I learn to walk in the light and let You guide my path, I know I will not stumble again. And it’s in Jesus’ name I pray. AMEN!!

I John 1:7 If we walk in the light, as He is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus, his Son, purifies us from all sin.
