The Fear of The Lord

You are worthy, O Lord, to receive glory, honor and praise for You created all things and, by Your will, You sustain them each day.  My deep respect for You stems from the purity and justice that I see in all that You do and the magnitude of Your love for those who do not deserve it.  It is the fear of the Lord that causes me to dread offending You with my sins.  The fear I associate with You is not one of fright and horror, but one that emanates from my loving devotion and submission to You.  My awe of You and Your power drives me to my knees in loving submission to Your will.  It penetrates my heart with reverence and causes me to shun the things that offend You.  In the kind of fear I feel toward You, I see Your greatness and the majestic King that You are.  To me You are beautiful to behold, mighty and powerful and have accomplished things that I could never imagine.

To those who genuinely fear You, You’ve promised to bestow upon them Your favor.  One way You show it is through Your faithfulness … You will not leave those who fear You no matter what they face and Your eyes will follow them wherever they go.  You also provide them with blessings … for You have good things stored up for then, have promised them an inheritance and You fill their desires.  You provide them with protection … by assigning angels to encamp around them, act as their helper and shield and provide them with a secure shelter to hide.  They are also the beneficiaries of a long and successful life … for You add length to their days on earth, lead them to a place where they can rest in contentment, untouched by trouble and give them wealth, honor and a long life.  Your delight is in those who put their trust in You and Your unfailing love.

Your Word tells me that “the fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom; all who follow His precepts have good understanding.”  This tells me that wisdom comes from knowing You.  As I search for a deeper relationship with You, You confide in me and make Your ways known to me.  I gain invaluable lessons from You on how to lead my life because You are the Creator of life.  To know You is to stand in awe and compels me to avoid sin.  Your wisdom is a gift to those who want to experience something deeper with You.  The more I learn, the more reverent I become toward You.  You have hidden wisdom from the foolish and rebellious but, to those who fear You, You give them favor, love and withhold nothing.  I live each day in awe of Your mighty power yet tender heart.  The pain, suffering and death You endured for me compels me to fear You all the more.  And it’s in Jesus’ name I pray.  AMEN!!

Ecclesiastes 12:13 Fear God and keep His commandments for this is the whole duty of man.
