The Peace of the Lord

My Heavenly King, when my life feels like I am going through a storm, I seek You and long for Your peace that surpasses all understanding and places a guard over my heart and mind.  My world seems to always be in a state of change, but You remain unchanging.  I sometimes feel like even the ground beneath my feet is trembling, but You remain steady.  In my times of distress, I am comforted by the knowledge that You are the strong Rock upon which I have built my life.  I know that I can only experience Your kind of peace if I am connected to You and I’m relying on You for my direction and sense of purpose.  Through my personal relationship with You, I can never be robbed of the genuine peace that emanates from Your compassionate love.  The demands of my daily life should never obscure the fact that You died for me so I could have an eternal and abundant life.  I’ve come to understand that it is only an illusion to think the world can bring peace and happiness … for the world’s peace is fleeting, but Yours is permanent.

Help me, Lord, to not only experience peace, but to live in peace with my fellow man.  You have promised that if I will become a peacemaker, You will call me Your child.  Abundant peace can only reside within me if I listen to Your instructions.  When I am able to walk in Your peace, nothing can shake me or cause me to stumble.  As my Loving God, Your hope is that I experience the quiet rest I need to get my bearings … and, the balm of Your love will ease the tension that comes from dealing with my problems.  I know that as I let Your peace take hold in my life, it will build up my strengthen and ability to persevere.  This empowerment will in turn cause me to become a source of peacemaking wherever I go.  Help me never become estranged from You because when I am at peace with You, everything is settled and calm.

I often think that my peace comes from the outside into my inner man … but, in fact, it just the opposite.  When I ask You to change my circumstances, in many cases, You recognize that it is really my character that needs to be changed.  In my searching for peace, I’ve determined that the peace I seek can only be found in You.  Often I find myself trying to create peace for myself, but I now know that all I have to do is enter into it.  My greatest peace comes when You whisper the answers to my questions and reveal Your will for me.  To have peace, I must first be at peace with You.  I know that an abundance of grace and blessings emanate from Your peace.  Therefore, I must seek the way to You and Your peace each and every day.  And it’s in Jesus’ name I pray.  AMEN!!

Philippians 4:7 And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ.
