Winning the Battle

Most Valiant Savior, come to my aid for I battle with evil and the weakness of my flesh day and night.  I find myself not being able to do the things I should and not being able to resist doing the things I should not.  You have laid before me the choices of … good and evil … light and darkness … victory and defeat … hope and desolation.  Why is it that I keep making bad choices?  Over and over in Your Word You have shown me that the battle is not mine … for I am weak … but yours, for You are the Might One.  This does not mean that I have no role to play but that I must seek Your battle plan and carry it out to have a victory.  You have promised to give me strength to meet my challenges and assure me that You will not leave me in the heat of battle.  Instead, You will stand with me, becoming my advisor and providing me with the guidance I need to come out on top.

I have learned from You that my struggles are not against my fellow man but against evil in high places.  And even though I live in the world, I do not wage war in the ways of the world.  For the weapons I fight with are not earthly ones.  To the contrary, they are ones filled with Your power and are able to obliterate my foes.  What I need is for You to train my hands for war and my mind for battle.  This happens when I reject the arguments and deceptions of sin that try to shroud the brilliance of Your truths.  Therefore, I must take every action I can to subject every thought that enters my mind to a rigorous test against Your Word.  In addition, I must abstain from the occasion of sin and sinful desires … live a pure and selfless life … spend time in reflection on Your Word … and give You all of the praise and glory You deserve for the things You’ve done for me.

In resisting evil, I cannot struggle aimlessly in my own strength and wisdom, but turn to You.  I must fight with my faith by … acting on Your truths … obeying You with courage … and doing what is right.  In my battle with sin, I must be willing to give it my all … do everything You show me to do … and only then will I be able to say I have fought the good fight of faith and prevailed.  As I see the wonder of Your Word revealed in Your light, I am invigorated by Your power so I that can withstand the attacks of sin.  What helps me in my struggle with evil is that in the times of great stress, I can feel Your presence … sense Your leadership … and feel Your turning my weakness into strength.  Even though I fall to sin, I believe that when I repent, You will come and fight for me.  That is why I remain confident in winning my battle with sin.  And it’s in Jesus’ name I pray.  AMEN!!

Isaiah 41:12-13 Those who wage war against you will be brought to nothing at all.  For I am the Lord, Your God, who takes hold of your right hand and says to you, “Do not fear; I will help you.”
