You and Your Word Are One

Most Beloved Savior, John’s Gospel explains the close relationship between You and Your Word when he says, “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God and the Word was God.  He was with God and the Word was God.  He was with God in the beginning.”  What these words confirm to me is what You spoke, taught and did is inseparably tied to who You are.  As the Living Word, You are the agent behind creation, the source of all truth and the Messenger from the Father.  Through You comes sound reasoning, clean living and steady guidance.  As the Living Word, You are the ultimate revelation of God … a living picture of holiness … and, the fountain of His love.  You’re the Messenger of the Good News proclaiming … “come to me and I will save You from your sins.”  If I yearn to be close to You, all I have to do is open my Bible and read and You will commune with me.

A parable that clearly connects You to Your Word is the parable of the sower.  In it, You are the sower and Your words are the seeds.  The seeds that fell on the pathway tells me about those who are drawn to Your words, but their initial interest is soon swept away by the enticements of the world and the things that please their flesh.  The seeds that fell upon the rocks speak of those who respond to Your calling, but when stress and trials come into their life, they abandon You.  The seeds that fall among the thorns speak to Your words drawing them into a relationship with You, but worries, riches and pleasures cause them to abandon fellowship with You and they are unable to fulfill Your calling.  But the seeds that fall on good ground are those who find a willing and contrite heart that yearns to fulfill Your calling and way of life.  These want to be conformed into Your likeness and produce fruit for Your Kingdom.

The 23rd Psalm also helps me understand the connection between You and your Word.  First, it says Your desire is for all of my needs to be met (and Your Word tells me how to go about attaining them).  Then it tells me You will make me lie down in green pastures (and Your Word explains how to take hold of Your peace).  Then, You tell me You want to restore my soul (and Your Word documents how my salvation is to be achieved).  You express Your desire to guide me into righteous living (and Your Word explains how to live it).  You encourage us not to fear (and Your Word deals with how to avoid worry and fear).  You invite me to a banquet with You (and Your Word tells me how to accept Your offer).  It is clear that Your desire is to inspire, comfort, correct and guide me.  And, Your Word does all of these things.  That’s how I know You and Your Word are one.  And it’s in Jesus’ name I pray.  AMEN!!

Revelation 19:13 He is dressed in a robe dipped in blood and His name is the Word of God.
