O Shining Light, I wait in the darkness for the warm glow of Your light. I hunger for Your truth which brings me understanding. It is Your Word alone that has the power to lift me out of the mire I find myself and creates a hope that sustains me. Help me learn to speak Your Word in a way that will allow its light to shine brightly before men. I need Your light to guide me through the darkness and past the evil that I face every day. How I long for Your peace when I am troubled … How I long for Your hope when I am drowning in despair … How I long for Your love when I am not feeling very loveable. It is only through Your marvelous light shining upon me that I am able to overcome my anguish and teach me a better way.
I hunger and thirst for more of You in the same way that I long for sustenance and refreshing. Help me see You in every aspect of my life … looking out for me … counseling me … placing a hedge of protection around me … and, giving me a peace that surpasses all human understanding. Shine Your light into my heart so that I will know You are there … now and forever. When danger surrounds me, I look to You to provide me with a wall to hide behind. When I am wounded and my heart has been crushed, be my strength and help me keep standing. You are the foundation upon which I have built my life and it’s the clarity of Your light that enables me to see my way forward. Many are the gifts and benefits that I receive from You each day … help me never lose sight of the fact that every good and every perfect gift comes from You … who is good and perfect.
In Your Word, You have told me that You are the light of the world … and, You have commanded me to let my light shine before men so that they might see my good deeds and be drawn to You. As I walk in Your light, I become a “son of light” revealing Your truths and pointing others toward You. If I hide Your light by … remaining silent when I should speak … going along with the crowd … letting sin dim my light … ignoring the needs of others … I am putting my light under a basket. As a Christian, it is essential that I become a beacon of truth shining Your light into a world filled with evil and hopelessness. Your light is important to all men because with it comes understanding and insight. Evil is continually at work trying to draw me into the darkness, but Your light gives me a clear line of sight that allows me to escape its power. Therefore, I must learn to put my trust in Your light so I can be shown the way You want me to go. And it’s in Jesus’ name I pray. AMEN!!
