Mercy, Forgiveness, and Cleansing

My Loving Savior, have mercy on me and through Your compassionate sacrifice blot out all of my transgressions. Wash away my iniquity and cleanse me from the stains of sin. In my heart, I know that my transgressions and sins have hurt You deeply. Against You and my fellow man I have sinned and done evil in Your sight. You are completely justified in judging me because You alone are righteous. Though I have been stained with sin since I was conceived, Your fondest desire is to have Your truths take root in my heart and turn me away from sin. From the depths of Your wisdom, I need for You to teach me how to walk in Your ways. I know if I repent from my sins, You are merciful to forgive me and I understand that You will not eliminate the natural consequences of my sins. I recognize sin as my rebellion against Your way of living. So, I need the changes You bring to our relationship.

Cleanse me and I will be clean. Wash me and I will become whiter than snow. May Your cleansing work in my life prepare me for true service to You. May the joy of being restored to You lift me to new heights of love and adoration. Create in me a new heart that aligns with Your thoughts and desires. Restore in me the hope for a better tomorrow and give me a spirit of service. As I learn and heed to Your instructions, I will be able to teach sinners how to turn from their sins and turn their lives over to You. Fill me with the joy of my Salvation and cause my path to be in conformity with Your will. You do not delight in sacrifices, or I would bring them to You. You do not take pleasure in burnt offerings either. The sacrifice You are looking for from me is a broken spirit and a broken and contrite heart. Help me to see and understand what that means in my life going forward.

Because I was born into sin, my natural inclination is to please myself rather than You. To become more like You, I must be cleansed from the inside out. My old thoughts and ways must be purged and be replaced with new ones acceptable to You. Righteous living only comes from a pure heart and spirit. I no longer want to sin and drive a wedge between us that makes You distant. Through the working of the Holy Spirit, confront me with the things that displease and hurt You. Restore within me the “freshness” of my Salvation and help me work diligently to show You my appreciation for all You have done to save me from Hell and the grave. I know that when sin remains unconfessed it robs me of the forgiveness and mercy You promised at my “new birth”. Show me the power of Your forgiveness, mercy, and cleansing that You offered when I “sold out” to You. And its in Jesus’ name I pray. AMEN!!

Titus 3:4-5 When the kindness and love of God our Savior appeared, He saved us, not because of righteous things we had done, but because of His mercy. He saved us through the washing of rebirth and renewal by the Holy Spirit, whom He poured out on us through Christ our Savior, so that having been justified by grace, we might become heirs having the hope of eternal life.
