O God of Enlightenment, teach me Your ways … show me Your paths … guide me in truth and instruct me on how to use it … because my success depends on mastering them. Teach me from Your heart the way I am to live and perform the works You’ve planned for me. I believe that my faith can grow and mature if I follow Your instructions, cling to You and obey what You instruct me to do. By heeding Your words, I will learn what is good and right … and, by pursuing them, I will reap my inheritance. But, first I must want to be guided … see Your ways as better than my ways … and be willing to put forth the effort to conform my will to Yours. And, if I truly want Your guidance, I know where I can find it … in Your Word … which is alive and teaches me all I need to know. But, to walk the walk, I must be willing to obey You. Only then will I be empowered to overcome my trials and find solutions for my problems.
When I chafe at Your laws and commands, because they restrain me from doing what I want to do, help me understand their intent is to guide me so I can be free to possess the life You want for me. They act as restraints keeping me from doing what cripples our relationship and stifling my efforts to give You my best. Your intent is to help me stay on the right path and not wander off into ways that lead to defeat and destruction. Open my eyes so I can see the wonder of what You have to share with me. As I travel through life, teach me how to utilize the Scriptures as my roadmap pointing the way to safe routes, showing me obstacles that are to be avoided and smoothing out the path ahead. I am but a sojourner on this earth who needs to learn how to use Your roadmap so me the best way to where I need to go. Give me the will to accept Your way as my way and walk in it.
I once deplored my afflictions, but now I realize that they are my teachers keeping me humble and showing me my need for You. To walk in the darkness that surrounds me, I need Your light so I can see my way forward. Your words are a lamp for my feet showing me the way to avoid the things that will cause me to stumble. It exposes the entangling false values and human philosophies that can trip me up. In the same way that I feel a breeze brush across my face, help me sense the breath of the Holy Spirit imparting Your wisdom to my soul. I need His discernment so that I can apply the Scriptures to the parts of my life where they are needed most. The lessons I glean from Your teachings are a medicine that, when it is applied to my life, brings about healing. Only You can provide me with dependable and true guidance which I need to succeed … teach me your ways. And it’s in Jesus name I pray. AMEN!!
