What Manner of Thanks?

Most Glorious Lord, with a heart filled with thanksgiving, I lift up praise to You alone as my Everlasting Savior.  I rejoice in the kindness You have shown to me and the way that You’ve turned my sorrows into joy.  I give You thanks for the many blessings that You showered upon me and the benefits of Your divine providence that enhances my life.  I acknowledge Your meeting all of my needs and for standing in the gap whenever I call out to You.  I have come to realize that every good and every perfect gift comes from You because You are good and perfect.  For everything that I’ve become, I give You all of the glory.  For my successes, my wealth, my image among men and my good health have been gifts from You.  Whatever successes I’ve had in life have come from my relationship with You.  It is Your good will that has carried me through tough times and helped me make the hard decisions I’ve had to make.

I give You thanks for all of the indescribable gifts that You have given to me … the most unworthy of men.  You have blessed me by releasing me from the shame and punishment due for my sins which you bore upon Your body.  The cleansing work of my redemption has moved me from darkness into Your marvelous light.  Your wisdom has guided me and shown me the better way.  Your grace has turned me from being a loser into being an overcomer.  You’ve given me a peace that surpasses my understanding and provides me with a safe harbor when the storms of life come upon me.  When I flounder in hopelessness, You infuse me with Your joy and my outlook become positive and I see my impossibilities becoming possible.  I rejoice in the fact that You have blessed me with good health and have met all of my needs.  You have comforted me when I was down and loved me when I was unlovable.

So what manner of thanks do I owe You that appropriately reflects the gratitude I feel for all that You have done for me?  In expressing my thanks, I want to build good will with You and cause You to feel appreciated.  I feel it is in my obedience, heartfelt devotion and absence from sin that I can show You the love I have in my heart.  I want to offer myself as a living sacrifice to You through honest worship, following Your lead, setting aside selfish desires and coveting Your words of wisdom.  You do not ask blind obedience from me, but a free will offering of myself and all that I possess in service to You.  I want my praise to be for the right reasons as opposed to the wrong ones.  I believe that if I follow Your lead, put my energy and resources at Your disposal and trust Your leading, then I will understand what manner of thanks I should give to You.  And it’s in Jesus’ name I pray.  AMEN!!

Psalm 40:5 Many, O Lord my God, are the wonders you have done.  The things You planned for us no one can recount to You; were I to speak and tell of them, they would be too many to declare.
